Released on 2024/10/22

Fu Jen Catholic University continues to cultivate top-tier EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) educators to align with the Ministry of Education's bilingual learning initiative. As part of this effort, the College of Management actively encourages its faculty to pursue short-term advanced training abroad. Recently, Professor Hsu Yu-Ming from the Department of Finance and International Business attended the Faculty Career Development Workshop at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and completed a two-week EMI training program at The University of Texas at Austin. The program offered a diverse curriculum, combining classroom observations, workshops, and micro-teaching sessions.

Professor Hsu shared that the program covered a wide range of teaching techniques, particularly focusing on how to promote student engagement and comprehension through case-based teaching and guided questioning. The training also emphasized the scaffold teaching method, which helps students gradually acquire subject knowledge in an EMI setting, while encouraging self-directed learning. Additionally, the integration of local and international students in group activities enhanced cross-cultural interaction and discussion, enriching the overall learning experience and bringing new energy and innovation to future EMI teaching strategies.

Upon returning to Taiwan, Professor Hsu conducted a course demonstration on October 14 at Fu Jen. Observing professors unanimously praised his effective use of warm-up questions to capture student attention and stimulate critical thinking. The mixed grouping of local and international students further boosted participation and engagement in classroom discussions. One professor noted, “The use of cases made complex concepts clearer, and the professor's energetic tone and clear communication maintained student attention, making the EMI class a success.”

The College of Management continues to sponsor 2-3 faculty members each year for global training programs, equipping them with the latest teaching methods and encouraging innovation in research. This ongoing commitment injects new energy into management education and ensures Fu Jen's place as a leader in internationalized higher education.
